When performing an oil change, or having your local mechanic perform that duty, make sure you or he is aware of the following. The Cooper oil filter cartridge slips over a perforated center core attached to the inside of the oil filter cap. The core is spring-loaded and applies some preload pressure to seal the filter against the filter base. We have had several do-it-your-self mechanics call us in a panic after performing a simple oil and filter change. What has occurred is when removing and discarding the filter cartridge they have inadvertently discarded the center-sealing core. The result is low oil pressure at idle that will damage your engine if not corrected immediately.
